The integrity of the driving gear is critical to the operation of the tachometer gearbox. This gear is precision cut for smooth operation of the gearbox assembly, as specified for Triumph unit-construction twins from 1966-1983. Precision manufactured to original factory specifications, this reproduction driving gear is sourced from LF Harris in the UK. Housed inside the gearbox unit, the spade on the driving gear is located in the end of the exhaust camshaft. As the camshaft rotates, the driving gear meshes with the driven gear to spin the tachometer cable. The tachometer cable must be disconnected and the threaded plug on the end of the tachometer drive gearbox removed to withdraw the driving gear. The gears must be well-lubricated when re-installed.
